The Clerk & Recorder’s documents are now available on iDoc!  You may use this service by going to idocmarket.com.  Not all records are available just yet, but we are adding more each day.

Copy fees – $.50 for the first page of a document and $.25 for each additional page.  There will be a $2.00 convenience fee for copies sent by fax or email.  For certified copies of recorded documents, the standard copy fees apply along with a $2.00 certification fee.  Certified copies cannot be faxed or emailed.

Recorded Documents

Deeds; Mortgages; Releases; Leases; Orders & Decrees; Assignments and Miscellaneous. These documents are indexed, microfilmed and returned. Recording fee is $8.00 per page, or portion thereof.  Non-standard documents incur an additional $10.00 fee.   Please follow document standards.  Re-recorded documents will not be accepted by e-file.

Filed Documents

Financing Statements, Liens, Attachments; Notices of Action; Plats; Certificates of Survey; Land Corner Records; Election Filings and Miscellaneous. These documents are indexed and filed in the vault. Filing fees vary. **Surveys submitted to the Clerk & Recorder’s Office after 4:30pm may not be recorded until the following day to allow adequate time for review before filing.

Birth and Death Records

Birth and death records are not open to the public.

Certified Copies of a Birth Certificate

Mail a completed copy of the Birth Certificate Request to the Teton County Clerk and Recorder’s Office with a $8.00 fee per certificate.

Certified Copies of a Death Certificate

Mail a completed copy of the Death Certificate Request to the Teton County Clerk and Recorder’s Office with the a $7.00 fee for each certificate.

 

Military Discharges (DD214)

These are recorded documents with book and page identification. $2.00 plus copy fees. All documents are given numbers and/or book and page identification so they can be located at a future date. It is important that you have that document ID when calling for Information.  Please mail a completed Military Discharge Request to the Teton County Clerk & Recorder’s Office with the proper fees.  Please note: this form must be notarized.

 

Elections

Election information and voter registration/absentee ballot request forms can be found on the Montana Secretary of State’s Election Page.

Now is a great time to check to make sure your voter registration information is current and correct.  You can find your registration status at the link above or by calling our office at 406-466-2693.

Candidate filing for municipal offices in Choteau, Dutton and Fairfield is open from April 17 through June 16, 2025.  Filing forms are available at the Clerk & Recorder/Elections Office and in each of the city offices.

IMPORTANT UPDATE!!

 

House Bill 207 has been passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor on May 12, 2025. 

 The immediate effect of HB 207 is that the candidate filing opening date for the municipal primary changes from 145 days to 105 days, and the filing deadline changes from 85 days to 90 days before the election.  The new municipal primary filing dates are May 27th, 2025, for the opening of filing and June 11th, 2025, as the close of filing.  The write-in candidate filing deadline has also been changed to 90 days before the election, which is June 11th, 2025.
